365 Days of Running
Today is my 30th birthday, and also my 365th consecutive day of running (well, 368th, but who's counting). I set out on this journey one year ago to prove to myself that there is always time to do what you love. You make time for what's important. I ran on my birthday, my wedding day, my honeymoon, my best friend's wedding, Christmas, New Years, snow storms, ice storms, heat waves, travel days, and everything in between. The biggest lesson I learned is to listen to my body. As someone who is constantly pushing myself, my greatest fear was that I would become injured and not be able to complete the challenge. I became very attuned to my body and when it was okay to push and when I needed to back down. With infinite run days ahead of me, I realized that a few days at a slower pace or lower mileage were worth it if it meant I could keep going. I ran a lot of short 2k runs (my "rest days"), but also PRd my half marathon this past April. At the end of the day, though, the most crucial component was the support of my husband. He put up with my early weekend mornings and late weekday evenings, often having a meal ready for me by the time I was home. Thanks to everyone who has made me who I am today, 30 years young.
