Sephora Sale 2020: Beauty Must-Haves as a Runner

Sephora has a massive sale twice a year, and this is the time to stock up on old favourites and treat yourself to some new goodies! As a skincare and beauty product minimalist, I have a short list of must-have items that have been getting me through life this year.

I originally purchased this oil to use with a guasha tool, but it very quickly became one of my staple products. I use this as my daily moisturizer every morning and evening, using the dropper to drop the oil directly on my forehead and cheeks. It provides a moisturizing layer but does not feel heavy at all. I am really picky with any product on my face, and I cannot feel this one at all!

I also use this as a hair mask once a week. On hair-wash days I slather my hair with it and throw it into a bun for the day (since I’m working from home) or when I am heading out for a run. It washes away easily and leaves my hair feeling super soft. Even my hair dresser is impressed, especially after 3 rounds of bleach/balayage!

After retiring my lash extensions back in March (#covidproblems), I went through a grueling process of trying different mascaras and false lashes in order to get the look I wanted. I finally landed on this mascara by Marc Jacobs and have been LOVING it. I don’t like a very chunky look, and this coats the lashes without getting really clumpy. It stays all day, even through long runs, but washes off easily with my daily cleanser.

It isn’t waterproof (which is why it washes off so well!). That said, on days that I’ve worn it in the rain it didn’t completely melt all over my face. A bonus when you get caught in a downpour! My favourite waterproof mascara is definitely the Too Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara.

This face cleanser was recommended to me by an esthetician last year and it is the only face wash I’ve ever used consistently. As a runner and overall sweat-enthusiast, I would often get little breakouts and bumps around my hairline and temples. I use this stuff after every run and my skin has been clearer than ever! It’s very gentle and doesn’t leave my skin feeling too dry or tight, but still cleans really well. It has a very subtle soapy scent, though at this point it smells like nothing to me.

“Masking” is one of those things that I wish I did more often as a part of my selfcare routine. This mask is great for evening out skin texture and brightening skin. I use it once a week, leaving it on for about 10 minutes and then massaging it into my face as I rinse it off. It has a really nice thick texture, and little exfoliating particles that leave my skin feeling super smooth.

5. Aquis Lisse Luxe Hair Turban

My whole life I thought that part of having long (or medium or short) hair was balancing a bulky towel on my head post-shower only to have it topple off and pull all my hair with it. This Aquis towel is Life. Changing.

It’s nice and light, and wraps my hair up in a perfect little bundle that buttons into place. I can move around, get dressed, chase my cat around the house (one could also chase kids around, but I couldn’t say), and it STAYS PUT. Whether or not it actually cuts down dry time by 50%, I couldn’t say since I don’t actually blow dry my hair. But the fact that I can whip my hair into it and have it not move is worth it to me.

I feel weird adding hair ties to my “beauty must-haves”, but as a runner the list would be incomplete without these. They’re tight enough that I can out my hair up for a run, and then when I take it out there is NO KINK. It’s really amazing. I’ve never had one break on me, and I love that they stretch enough to fit on my wrist but then also shrink back within a day of not being used.
